April Community Update discussion thread

Pokelamps

Take this as a question or feedback or suggestion.

My question is, will there be a downloadable .exe file? This game needs to be a dedicated program instead of a game that runs using browser plugins.

Now that Unity is being used to develop the game, I don't think it is impossible. (Unless there are budget constraints from The Pokemon Company International.)

A proper game > browser-based game.

Glad they are changing to Unity, Hoping htey are planning a mobile version of PTCO, Unity is quite a great crossplatform SW< and yes with unity you can have an exe client. Google unity web player and you can find more details.

I just started playing this again, Real and Online and kind of stinks PTCO is going down, i finally opened enough packs for my deck, but glad they are keeping community updated.

Not got much to add here, people who use this game on a regular basis have summed up our feelings. And I think its about time that the developers listen to what there community want, people have spent money on this and now you are pretty much telling them, thanks for your money now we are going to stop you using cards you have spent money on and we are not telling you when you can use them again, but please stay while we decide whats best for you.

LISTEN TO WHAT THESE PEOPLE ARE SAYING!

I'm seeing some good questions so far. Keep them coming!

We'll pull together a list of these questions on Monday morning, sit down with the team to get some answers, and then try to post them by end of day Friday. Please keep in mind that there are some things we can't/won't talk about yet, so don't expect every question to get an answer this time around.

Have a great weekend!

Prof_Mathis

As promised, I've distilled last weekend's posts into a series of questions, which we'll post answers to by end of day Friday. There are a number of individuals and vendors working on the game that are directly affected by the answers we give, so it takes a bit of time to make sure that we're providing the most accurate information possible.

Thanks for your patience,

Prof_Mathis

Thank you for the update.

After everything is running the way you want, and all the updates are in check, will we be able to challenge previously played opponents after a game was just played and play aginst our friends ?

For me it's totally okay. The PvP isn't fun right now anyway and i can't wait to see the new version then. Of course some people are upset with this update (like always) but actually i don't worry about the game, guess there will be even more players than now when the new version is coming. <img src="http://www.pokemontcg.com/javascripts/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/png/regular_smile.png" alt="" />

First I am disappointed with the PVP going offline. The AI is weak.

BUT!

If your V2 or PokemonTCG2.0 would incorperate Android, I would LOVE IT. I was hoping to play on my Bionic cell phone and Transformer Prime tablet. Currently after just a bit they both have Flash crashes. Work this out with V2.

Think about it. Pokemon on the go! Battle at school, on the street corner, at work <img src="http://www.pokemontcg.com/javascripts/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/png/tounge_smile.png" alt="" />, even meet someone new in the mall and own there Pokemon would be cool.

Just refresh your browser, you don't have to sign out and back in to make it work again. I know it is another pain to go along with the others but it is a simple fix by refreshing.

Do not agree at all.

The current version is playable, and however there are bugs and glitches, they are constant and do not grant anybody an ultimate or undefeatable deck. Therefore I can say this game still amuses me. Besides, creating decks and test running them against other players is a really valuable feature asset of the current version. I even made some IRL decks out of the succesful decks in TCGO. So this game is still fun, at least for me. And I'm sure there are plenty of other people who enjoy this game despite its flaws.

Second point. Where are you basing on that "there will be even more people when this than now" on? I'm pretty sure that when the core multiplayer function of this game gets pulled out of the air, just a handfull will stick around to play the half-working TCGO.

Adressing this to the admins: On the other hand you are bringing back an improved version of the Trainer Challenge. However, that is still a single player game and because of that you will lose all feeling of the cohesiveness of the communtiy. (Unless there is a chat function inside the TC which I'm not aware of) It's a single player with a single player experience, and that won't cut it for the months TCGO is out. People will lose interest and they will forget about TCGO. People who were interested before.

I've read the argument that I'm probably expecting to much out of a game that is still in it's Beta phase. That made think. Am I? However, I am paying a price for this game. The packs (and boxes) have gone up in price, starting the set the codes were distributed in the packs. This may all sound harsh, and you may get around my argument buy saying "Stop buying packs then you #@$!!" but I'm sure I'm not just one in a few who are buying packs to get a hold of both the real cards AND the codes. I'm sure you will lose some money in pack sales. On way or antoher.

That brings my to my question.

Are codes always redeemable, or will they stop working after a certain time?

The answer will influence me a lot when I'm buying cards next time.

Last thing I and a LOT of the other people who are also here from the start need from you guys is one word. Clarity. People who've been here around long enough know that everything whats been promised is never actually come true. Besides we get little to no information to whatever you guys are doing there behind the stages. Give us tiny updates, how insignificant the update may sound to you. Give it often, every week if you can, if not every two weeks. Just to let the community know you, and we as the testers, are making progress and showing there is actually an finished TCGO in the making.

I do want to conclude with the words that this game has lots of poitential and I'd love to see it get finished :)

Seeing as Unity supports android and other systems, I would be super excited to see it as a cell phone app also even if it were years into the future. The code card's could be scanned through the phone easier and it could really work well on the phone. The only problem I'd see would be the size of the screen making the cards harder to see. Even on my huge HTC phone it'd be hard unless when you tap a card it goes fullscreen. I'd definitely pay for that app. The screen size problem could easily be fixed by people using it mainly on tablets. I forgot about that. Those are much bigger and definitely able to handle the game. Release it on Steam, release it on android, release it online free to play, and make billions of monies.

I'm sure there's still people going to buy cards though, not EVERYONE buys cards just for the codes, and whoever only wants the codes usually buy them seperately on places like TrollandToad or eBay or something like that. I'm not sure about you guys, but I buy the cards for the cards, the codes for online are kinda like a bonus to me.

The shutdown is going to feel like it's lasting forever for some people, but when it comes back it'll be like it never happened. You wont stop playing forever. You wont stop buying packs. You wont forget about this game. You're a pokemon fan. You'll still be here when the game comes back and you'll enjoy it a million times more. Calm down guys.

I have another question. If I redeem codes now, will the Booster Credits still be there when the game comes back?
