First of all, hello to everyone !

I started to play Pokemon TCG Online few days ago. I had a lot of fun and I would say that I'm doing well. Played 2 themed tournaments and won them both. :D I have bought 8 newest themed decks, but mostly I play Blazing Volcano and Hydro Fury. I could say I'm pretty familiar with all basic mechanics of the game.

I opened many Booster packs until now and got some really good cards from them I would say. I have few unopened booster packs because I saw somewhere on reddit that they are good for trading.

I would like to play standard format but I kinda don't know anything about it except that I need to build deck on my own.

Can someone please tell me what should my next steps look like.

Is there any place where I can find standard decks that are meta right now and that have good win rate so I could perform decently in standard tournament. (Like ******** for Hearthstone)

Also, should I open Boosters or should I save them for trading.

Sorry for language mistakes, I'm from Croatia.

And thanks to everyone willing to help !

I have no time now but I can comment a couple fast things, yes, keep all unlocked packs for trade. It's always easier to get cards with them, even with older packs. And any pack guarantees a good card inside. Of course you can get some, and it's very fun to open'em, but rationally it's better to keep it and trade it.

For Standard tips take a look in here: http://forums.pokemontcg.com/topic/68797-want-feedback-on-prism-latios-alolan-exeggutor-deck/

It's another player recent thread with information about Standard.

About checking Standard Meta decks, I can suggest checking the Pokémon Tournaments: https://www.pokemon.com/us/play-pokemon/pokemon-events/championship-series-event-results/

And search in the net for limitless the tcg. If you find it, you'll know!

Thanks for very useful answer.

I have one more questions. What can I get when trading Booster packs ? What is the best strategies for trading.

And last one: Can you please suggest me witch standard deck should I build first ? And if you have deck list it would be really great to see all the peaces.

I opened Marshadow GX so maybe I could build some deck that include him..

Actually, if you're starting, it's easier to play Expanded. Standard is more focused on Meta. High chances is you play versus sort of meta decks once and again.

Expanded though, it's more open and the Meta is less defined. There's meta, yes, but with a wider amount of decks so at the end, soon or later you'll find weakness or you'll have type advantage over the Meta in front. Staples are tho, a bit different than Standard (Ace spec, Vs seeker, N, Juniper/Sycamore...)

In addition, good cards for Meta decks cost around 10 to 20 packs each. And you'll need 4 to 8 to make your deck. You could have a good Meta full deck for that 10 packs in Expanded. Marshadow GX can be played in Expanded in Night march or in Turbo Darkrai for example.

Trading booster packs you can get EVERYTHING. Best strategy for trading is search for a card with Set and number in Trading zone in game. It's not the same a Regular art, a Full art, a Secret rare or a Rainbow rare, prices change. You can also check Foil if you want but most of the times you just see checking trades. So you search for set and number and "study" the public trades. For the card I want, people wants 12 packs or more. Same card people is offering 10 packs and less. Options are get a trade, if 12 is OK to you. Offer that 10, and maybe add some random common/uncommon pokémon or any other card to make your trade different. Hey, 10 packs or 10 packs and a card? Let's get the one with the free card, even if useless, right? Or you could make an offer with 11 packs. This is probably the best way to get it fast and not paying that 12. You can apply this method for any card in the game.

Notice also that not all the packs have the same value. Lost thunder and Guardians rising have a value of 1. Burning shadows and Crimson invasion have a value of 0'5. So for a 10 LoT card, you'll have to offer 20 BuS, or even some more as it's harder someone accepts that older packs out of the last currency. Also sometimes maybe 18 is enough, it's a good quantity of packs so someone could accept, why not. Thus this is valid for Expanded or cheap cards, it's more likely you have to pay with 1-value packs or offer more than the 2x in other packs for the latest more played Meta cards.

Yo can also search the net for references typing: 'online card values tcg' and you'll find sort of a guide. But check ALWAYS public. That guide is useful to make yourself an idea but use to be bulky and it's far from being something set in stone. You can also check the 'some1spc guide trading'. I've taken a fast look and it's a bit exaggerated with the trades he shows but it explains quite good most of the things.

About decklists, check the last link I gave you and also the last tip in the previous comment. It's everything there!

This is so helpful, thank you for your time !

Can we now speak in numbers please.

I bought newest 8 themed decks and opened around 20 boosters (Didn't know that I can trade them at the time)

I have 15 lost thunder unopened boosters, 2 ultra prism and 1 celestial storm.

Whats the best deck I can get out of it ?

If I got you right one card for meta deck can cost 10 packs and I need like 20 cards that I'm missing. It would take large amount of money or even larger amount of time to build playable deck. I hope I got something wrong.

Let's say I'm going to skip STANDARD and play as you suggested - EXPANDED.

What would be my best next move ?

Well. It's great you have those decks.

You've gotten staple trainers as Cynthia (a couple in Mach strike) and Guzma (one in Blazing volcano) and more and you start a pool of pokémon that you can use in a lot of decks (Magcargo for example).

Easier way to start would be getting a couple Mach Strike to make one competitive (not meta but good) useful deck. You only need to remove useless cards and add enough of what it's important (Garchomp, Lucario, Cynthia...). This can also be done with Imperial command Theme, but I've never seen as good results as with the Mach strike modified deck.

You can visit Item exchange subforum and check 'Watto's junk yard' to ask for some trainers you miss.

Actually I would suggest playing Theme deck VS to grind a bit the ladder with any Theme you control for a while. It's boring but you can get rewards from ladder and go to tournaments to win Unlocked packs, and then trade them for the Meta cards you need.

Meta cards yes, they cost around 10-20 packs each. Tapu Lele GX, Zoroark GX, Alolan Ninetales GX (fairy), Blacephalon GX... The good is you need just 4, and then you can build different decks with the same (Zoroark GX it's in a lot of decks: Zoroark/Magcargo (=aka Zoroark control), Zoroark/Golisopod, Zoroark/Decudieye and in Expanded Zoroark/Seismitoad...). But still a good amount of packs.

I would get 1 Tapu Lele GX with your 15/18 packs.

Then try to get the cards for Malamar Toolbox, Psychic Malamar or Ultra Malamar. Probably 6-10 more packs can do it. You can play it without but, better with one Lele tho.

Also probably you can get everything for the Lost march with those packs, or Alolan Exeggutor.

Or you can go Expanded to Night march, Turbo Darkrai, Trevenant Break, Primal Groudon/Wobbufett, Drampa/Garbodor, Alolan Exeggutor too, Greninja Break, Necrozma Garbodor... Check Limitless.

You can do inverse, get the deck and with it, win packs enough to get the Lele after, so you won't boring with Theme decks. That's your choice.

Is this deck any good and is it playable in standard format ? Would I be able to pull out some wins when I get used to it ? I found it on YT channel and it said it's deck for 'post rotation' period. It is last deck on this page.. 3 Solgaleos GX and 2 normal. *******************************************

Just one note about forum stuff. External links are not allowed to be posted, so when you try to post one it gets replaced with a bunch of asterisks xd I personally think that their external link policy is a little too strict, but that's just how it is. There are some ways around it to share the link anyways, but I really shouldn't be teaching new forum users how to break the rules right off the bat xd

Anyway, your options would be to copy the deck list manually, find a written version somewhere and copy/paste that text (rather than the link), or to describe the video (YTber name and name of the video, for example) so that we can find it.

Anyway, I leave this one in Chasista's hands. I don't think there's much more that I can add.

Either way, last Solgaleo GX deck include the Promo (a couple copies) and that's an expensive one (I cannot get it myself LOL). But there's always the option to play and older still competitive version with GX costing 2-3 pack each, why not.

Mmm no, probably you shouldn't  Break the rules 101 by Sakura. Applies open. :P

And please, add, sure you can :)

You see you still need Lele-GX, right?

I don't think Registeel is worth to be played. Other decks played Rayquaza GuR 106. Or Alolan Vulpix sometimes, not as a replace but a different way to start.

4 Order pad seems a bit exaggerate to me. I would cut one or two and add one Field blower (and something else maybe).

Updating the deck as there's a whole new set released, I would check how P Elm's lecture works. Apricorn maker caould not be so necessary as it was then. Also Mysterious treasure it's a card you could add 1 or 2. A Rescue stretcher is always welcome. Not sure about a 3rd stadium. M. Frying pan was not in my head for this deck. Maybe with Blacephalon out there Weakness policy is better.

It's a deck not easy to play. But check internet vids and if you like it, try it, sure!

I manage to get my hands on all cards for the deck, tried it few games and I love it !

I'm going to try changes that you suggest.

Is there any other meta deck that I could build with around 20 packs of ultra prism to trade ? Have in mind that I have tapu lele and almost all supporter and item cards that are played in meta.
