So, I've been trying to make the Hydro Fury deck a bit more interesting, and I've realised that Swampert from Primal Clash has the exact same ability as the new Magcargo! Swell! So, I naturally wanted to test it out, and while I was doing this... weird thing happened.

I used Mask Royal to attach a [W] energy card to my benched old Swampert. As I suspected, it did not activate his Growth ability. After all, it states that I can attach one more energy, unless the first one is being attached by an effect of attack, ability or trainer card. Then I knocked out AI opponent's pokemon, my turn ended, and...

A pop-up box appeared, asking me if I want to attach one more card.

I did not attach, manually at least, any other card this turn to Swampert. It appeared AFTER the opponent's pokemon was knocked out. Check it for yourself. I have used an energy attachement for this turn for A-Vulpix

    86. It is now nautiscarader's turn (Turn #8).
    87. nautiscarader drew Professor's Letter.
    88. nautiscarader attached a Water Energy to Alolan Vulpix.
    89. nautiscarader's Alolan Vulpix retreated.
    90. Swampert became nautiscarader's new Active Pokémon.
    91. nautiscarader put Mudkip onto the Bench.
    92. nautiscarader played Professor's Letter.
    93. nautiscarader drew Water Energy.
    94. nautiscarader drew Water Energy.
    95. nautiscarader put Alolan Ninetales onto the Bench.
    96. nautiscarader's Alolan Vulpix evolved into Alolan Ninetales.
    97. nautiscarader's Swampert used its Diving Search Ability.
    98. nautiscarader's Swampert used its Power Draw Ability.
    99. nautiscarader drew Wishful Baton.
    100. nautiscarader drew Water Energy.
    101. nautiscarader drew Brooklet Hill.
    102. nautiscarader attached a Wishful Baton to Swampert.
    103. nautiscarader played The Masked Royal.
    104. nautiscarader attached a Water Energy to Swampert.
    105. nautiscarader's Swampert used its [α Growth] Ability.
    106. nautiscarader played Brooklet Hill.
    107. nautiscarader's Swampert used Hydro Pump and did 140 damage to Kendall's Dedenne.
    108. nautiscarader took a Prize card.
    109. Stunky became Kendall's new Active Pokémon.
    110. Kendall's Dedenne was Knocked Out.

    111. nautiscarader attached a Water Energy to Swampert. (!!!)

    112. It is now Kendall's turn (Turn #9).

So... We might have a bug here. O-or two. One for sure, with the text box appearing in wildly weird moment, and second one, perhaps, with the Masked Royal/Alpha Growth. Should it work together?

I classified it as a game bug, because of the pop-up box thingy.

And it happened again! Twice in a game, and boy, it is EVEN MORE BIZARRE.

    57. It is now nautiscarader's turn (Turn #6).
    58. nautiscarader drew Water Energy.
    59. nautiscarader put Alolan Vulpix onto the Bench.
    60. nautiscarader put Articuno-GX onto the Bench.
    61. Swampert became nautiscarader's new Active Pokémon.
    62. nautiscarader's Marshtomp evolved into Swampert.
    63. nautiscarader played The Masked Royal.
    64. nautiscarader attached a Water Energy to Swampert.
    65. nautiscarader's Swampert used its [α Growth] Ability.
    66. nautiscarader attached a Water Energy to Articuno-GX.
    67. nautiscarader attached a Water Energy to Swampert.
    68. It is now Brittney's turn (Turn #7).

and later

    117. It is now nautiscarader's turn (Turn #16).
    118. nautiscarader drew Professor's Letter.
    119. nautiscarader played Professor's Letter.
    120. nautiscarader drew Water Energy.
    121. nautiscarader drew Water Energy.
    122. nautiscarader played Rare Candy.
    123. nautiscarader played Rare Candy.
    124. nautiscarader put Swampert onto the Bench.
    125. nautiscarader's Mudkip evolved into Swampert.
    126. nautiscarader's Swampert used its Diving Search Ability.
    127. nautiscarader's Swampert used its Power Draw Ability.
    128. nautiscarader drew The Masked Royal.
    129. nautiscarader drew Dive Ball.
    130. nautiscarader drew Professor's Letter.
    131. nautiscarader played The Masked Royal.
    132. nautiscarader attached a Water Energy to Swampert.
    133. nautiscarader's Swampert used its [α Growth] Ability.
    134. nautiscarader attached a Water Energy to Alolan Ninetales.
    135. nautiscarader attached a Water Energy to Swampert.

Basically, in both cases, I used Masked Royale, attached an energy card to Primal Clash Swampert (that seemingly didn't activate the growth), then attached - from hand - an energy card to a DIFFERENT pokémon, and somehow, that new pokémon (A-Ninetales and Articuno-GX)... used the Alpha growth they do not have, but apparently has been sitting dormant to attach another card to Primal Clash Swampert.

Okay.

I've seriously been considering building a ancient trait swampert deck using 3 ancient trait swampert and one celestial storm swampert as the decks draw power and using ancient trait swampert to manipulate your draws the ancient trait swampert will be your main attacker it does 30 damage for each water attached vs 20 for the CS swampert crashers wake allows you to discard two water energy from your hand to pull two item cards from your deck you know where I'm going with this aqua patch ! And mallow helps to further manipulate your draws with CS swampert
The AT swampert has a very powerful attack with a choice band attached it does 190 for 4 energy !

Yeah, this was my exact thinking.

Also, couldn't test it further; the only other stage 2 pokémon with Alpha grow is Kingdra, but it is dragon-type, so Mask royale doesn't work on it.

Also, more news: I've been thinking of other ways of attaching energy via kinda-hand, and guess what Celestial Storm has given us aside from Masked Royal?

Manectric!

*** yes, this bug works with it as well...

I attached two cards to primal clash Swampert via Manectric's Double Charge attack, my turn ended, and I attached another card to a different pokémon. And just like before, Alpha growth has "jumped" from one card to another.

88. It is now nautiscarader's turn (Turn #9).
89. nautiscarader drew Water Energy.
90. nautiscarader's Manectric used its Double Charge attack.
91. nautiscarader attached a Water Energy to Swampert.
92. nautiscarader's Swampert used its [α Growth] Ability.
93. nautiscarader attached a Lightning Energy to Swampert.
94. nautiscarader's Swampert used its [α Growth] Ability.
95. It is now Cammie's turn (Turn #10).
96. Cammie drew a card.
97. Cammie played Potion.
98. Cammie's Poochyena healed for 30.
99. Cammie attached a Water Energy to Shellder.
100. Cammie's Poochyena used Bite and did 20 damage to nautiscarader's Manectric.
101. It is now nautiscarader's turn (Turn #11).
102. nautiscarader drew Lillie.
103. nautiscarader attached a Water Energy to Mudkip.
104. nautiscarader attached a Lightning Energy to Swampert.

Now I can see if all alpha growth are bugged, or is the fault on Manectric and Masked Royal.

Edit: something weird is going with auto-censorship-filter in this post, it keeps censoring "Manectric"followed by "and"

Edit 2: Yup, it seems that this bug occurs with other Alpha Growth. I used it on Gorebyss (primal clash 52), and mimicked the above situation

    71. It is now nautiscarader's turn (Turn #6).
    72. nautiscarader drew Skyla.
    73. nautiscarader played Pokémon Center Lady.
    74. nautiscarader's Manectric is no longer Asleep.
    75. nautiscarader's Manectric used its Double Charge attack.
    76. nautiscarader attached a Water Energy to Gorebyss.
    77. nautiscarader's Gorebyss used its [α Growth] Ability.
    78. nautiscarader attached a Water Energy to Gorebyss.
    79. It is now Otis's turn (Turn #7).
    80. Otis drew a card.
    81. Otis attached a Darkness Energy to Weavile.
    82. Otis played Poké Ball.
    83. Otis flipped 1 coin(s), resulting in 0 heads and 1 tails, for Poké Ball.
    84. nautiscarader's Manectric is now Asleep.
    85. Otis's Sneasel used its Icy Wind attack.
    86. nautiscarader flipped 1 coin(s), resulting in 0 heads and 1 tails, for Asleep.
    87. It is now nautiscarader's turn (Turn #8).
    88. nautiscarader drew Professor Kukui.
    89. nautiscarader played Skyla.
    90. nautiscarader drew Professor's Letter.
    91. nautiscarader played Professor's Letter.
    92. nautiscarader drew Water Energy.
    93. nautiscarader drew Lightning Energy.
    94. nautiscarader attached a Lightning Energy to Barboach.
    95. nautiscarader attached a Water Energy to Gorebyss.

Also, I'd love to submit a ticket on pokemon support, but I'm getting a CAS error in my browsers, no matter what add-ons I have enabled/disabled.
