Is there any method to match-making in standard or expanded play, such as facing opponents with a similar level and win ratio, or is it completely random?

Yes.

  • The game tries to match you against a similar-rated opponent.
  • The game counts your wins and losses (and who they were against, I think) to give you a rank that you can't see, and uses that number for matchmaking.
  • If too much time passes, you'll be matched against whoever comes along, which is why you'll sometimes see "Advantage" on yourself or your opponent.
  • The deck you use has absolutely NO impact on matchmaking; don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Your "level" in the game doesn't impact this at all, being just part of the daily challenge system. You get more challenge choices, more slots to carry challenges over to the next day, slightly harder challenges, and better prizes at higher levels. The level maxes out at 30, when you have all the coin, sleeve, and box prizes from the challenges, but the final advancement comes at level 16, when KO challenges start rewarding you with tradable booster packs rather than the locked ones you get at lower levels. You can keep doing challenges and getting the completion rewards every day even though the level stops going up.

"Swishonk!" That's what's happening!
