Hi there. Thanks for getting back to me. I actually think the game transcription is fine. The point I was trying to raise was that, don’t you think it’s highly improbable to have 3 stage 2 Pokemon and 2 stage 2 Pokemon in play by the players 3rd turn? Or was it was it just a massive fluke? I seem to have a lot of massive fluke games that occur (I actually had the advantage over this player making it even more weird and therefore not something they have done before or they would be winning a lot games and ranked higher) and I was wondering if the game mechanics/ELO system bias outcomes like this?
Thanks again

A good deck (that uses many stage 2s) will do this. A person could easily tank their Elo rating by doing challenges and trying out several new decks, and for all we know there could be rank decay built into the system that has idle players slowly return to a base value.

I'd like to be able to do with the the game logs what we can do with exporting/importing decks; that is, paste it into the game and watch it play out. It wouldn't work too well as is, though, since even post-game, the opponent's hand is hidden. Besides that, there's already a partially developed spectate function buried in code somewhere if it hasn't been ripped out to eliminate the bug that causes it to intrude on occasion, so they'd be going a different way there.

Thanks, and I agree with your points.

I appreciate its random, well at least I hope it is and that’s my point? I spent an age trying to get to level 30 but I’m now wondering whether it adds bias to my ELO. It shouldn’t because it was just a learning process. But to be fair, I have some unbelievable games against my player. 3 stage 2’s during turn 3, and two stage 1’s then another stage 1 and 4 stage 2’s by next turn smacks of improbability. It just doesn’t happen ever. Ever. The likelihood of not prizing one of those cards is infinitesimal so it seems unrealistic. And I’ve never seen it in TCGO before or in real life. So it leaves me wondering how it happens. I’d genuinely like to know if other players see this bizarre randomnes? And what PTCGO think and how it executes the ELO? Many top players in the meta don’t have level 30. Does it make a difference?

Thanks :-)

I honestly don't see your point, especially given that your opponent had a bad draw and that you helped him out quite a bit.

Lets go through this game step by step:

On his first turn he evolves his Leafon and plays a Cythia, leaving Rowlet and Leafon GX on his side on the field. At this point of the game it should be fairly obvious what you are up against.

An interesting thing to note is that your opponent didn't play anything after the Cynthia, indicating that he either hit nothing at all, or that he can unleash his engine on the next turn (Brigette, Rare Candy, etc.)

Despite knowing this, you go for the first turn Guzma, to force out a potential 2HKO against the Rowlet, practically gambling on him having a bad draw. Naturally you get punished accordingly and he hits you with the Brigett and UB into Leafon's GX attack, a play that was pretty much telegraphed from the first turn onwards.

Now, we can't say 100% that an N on your side would have weakened his hand, but if he doesn't play anything after a first turn Cynthia I'd always be on my guard.

So, as I said, he hits the GX attack and finds 4 Dartrix for his 4 Rowlets. Obviously one can argue now that having neither card of his 4-4-4 Decidueye line prized is rather lucky and it sure is, but the fact of the matter is this: It doesn't matter. If one of the pieces is prized you just go for another Zoroark GX.

However, now we enter your second turn and we realize why the first turn Guzma was so bad. Without another supporter you are forced to play the N, netting your opponent +4 cards (he started his turn with 7 cards and played Energy, Brigette and UB, leaving him with 2 cards in his hand)

Thanks to you he naturally found one Decidueye EX + the Sycamore to ensure that he hits everything else he needs.

Bottom line: Yes, your opponent got a bit lucky but you also played rather poorly.

As for the Level in regards to ELO: Although we can't say with 100% certainty, I'm willing to lay my hand in the fire and say that there is no correlation between the two.

The shadows of the abyss are like the petals of a monstrous flower that shall blossom within the skull and expand the mind beyond what any man can bear, but whether it decays under the earth or above on green fields, or out to sea or in the very air, all shall come to revelation, and to revel, in the knowledge of the strangling fruit - and the hand of the sinner shall rejoice, for there is no sin in shadow or in light that the seeds of the dead cannot forgive...

Thank you very much for your analytical thoughts on this game Felidae_, Bluefgs85 we hope there is no added frustration to you in the future as it was a random incident, as it seems. Please let us know if we can further assist you.

The OP does not deserve to have his gameplay ability challenged for asking why an opponent comes up with rare candy and evolutions so quickly take it easy felidae and the fact that a mod supported his assessment is just poor ethically. OP wants to know why someone can hit rare candy so quickly in the game and trust me rare candy like double energy are in peoples hands too often in the beginning of the game. The shuffling system is very poor in general when playing physical cards you can shuffle them however you want and then they get cut by the opponent. Not the case online if you don't play the same stock of dull trainers over and over you get punished. OP will learn that only certain cards are actually legit soon enough most people are under the impression that the game won't be dependent on certain trainers to do squat. Well we all know that the game is completely dependent on playing the same cards for years over and over vs a catalogue of other trainers sadly. Pokémon should train players better on the intricacies and impact of trainers because they are detrimental to their games otherwise. OP doesn't deserve a brow beating for his individuality and decision to not download decks. Chill
